Comparing yourself to others can lowers your self-esteem

Comparing yourself to others can be motivating for some people but in most of the cases it can de-motivate a person as it lowers your self-esteem and make you feel lesser about yourself.

If you compare yourself to someone who is a little better than you, you may catch up with him. However, if you compare yourself to someone who is far better than you are, you might never catch up with him. The problem lies in catching up with someone who is different from you in many aspects. Everybody is unique and is gifted with some or other skills. You need to understand what special abilities you possess. So, avoid making useless comparisons and here’s how you can do it.

1. Be kind to yourself

Try to be more kind and less harsh to yourself and this is how you can motive yourself to go the extra mile. Always think that you have some qualities which make you unique and different from others.

2. Prepare a gratitude letter for yourself

This will remind you about what you have and how happy you are. This will help you appreciate yourself. This also increases your chances of success.

3. Appreciate others instead of envying them

Instead of envying others try to appreciate and take tips from them. If you have friends who are successful in life, take suggestions about how you can improve your skills and achieve your goals.

4. Compete with yourself

If you want to improve, compete against your last performance and try to perform better than what you have done the last time. Set new goals for yourself, push yourself and sharpen your skills to reach new high in life.
